Pay Your Household Utility Bills in Turkey The following documentation is required to connect electric, gas and
water services to your residence:
Electric bills are mailed each month. Payment is best arranged via automatic bank withdrawal. Payment can be made in person at approved banks, which are listed on your monthly bill. Overdue bills must be paid at your district Electric Department Central Office. There is a significant late charge for overdue bills. Dial 186 to report electrical emergencies. Central Office: (212) 237-2350
Water bills are mailed every two months. Payment is similarly best arranged via automatic bank withdrawal. Payment may be made at approved banks, which are listed on your bill. Overdue payments must be made at your district Water Department General Office. Dial 185 to report water emergencies. Central Office: (212) 588-3800
The majority of (newer) homes and apartments have forced air natural gas heat. In an apartment building the cost of gas may be included in your monthly building maintenance fee. If your gas service is provided independent of the building, you will be issued a monthly bill. As with water and electricity, the preferred way to pay is by automatic bank transfer, or directly at approved banks listed on your monthly bill. Some range-ovens and bathroom water heaters may be connected to portable LPG tanks. LPG vendors frequent most neighborhoods on a regular basis and will exchange your empty tank for a fee. They can also be contacted by telephone. To report natural gas emergencies dial 187.
